Just gotta say, I love how seamlessly Legend of Korra has been working in the theme that Bending abilities which were once unique to one person, or at least highly specialized, are now becoming a lot more commonplace.
I’ll admit to being initially nonplussed by the fact that Mako (and a bunch of other dudes collecting paychecks at the local power-plant) could bust out the Lightning, but thematically it’s worked out really well.
Although it is a little odd that Mako is a quicker hand with Lightning than Ozai, who was probably the single most powerful Firebender in his generation (and a totally single-minded, cold-blooded bastard). Good for Mako, though, I guess. He’s got some skills.
The lightning that is used in the LOK universe seems… tainted. It definitely lacks the power and ferocity that was displayed in the ATLA universe.
